Eco-Tools Versions and Updates
Changes to the overall site are documented in the Site History.
Each individual module of Eco-Tools is identified by a three-element version number (x.x.x).
- The first number represents a major version. Updates that change the first digit involve large amounts of rewritten code and accompanying text.
- The second element represents the code. Minor changes to code result in a increment of the second number.
- The third element represents the accompanying text. Minor changes to the text result in an increment of the second number.
The version history of each Eco-Tool is documented on its History page, accessible from its table entry on the Eco-Tools main page. The History page also provides links to previous versions (see “The Eco-Tools Archive”).
Citation of an Eco-Tool should include the first two digits of the version number, e.g., “Life Table Calculations v2.3.” See the Authors page for each Eco-Tool for details on citation.
The Eco-Tools Archive
At present, whenever there is an update that changes the code (noticeable as a change in the first or second digit of the version number), the previous version of the entire module is archived, and is available via the History link for the relevant module. The reason for this is transparency and accountability. Anyone citing a module with a version number will be able to access the module as it was then, in its entirety, and, as long as the code is still functional in the current version of Mathematica, will be able to reproduce the same results.
